More than 600 students to showcase research, creative work May 3

More than 600 Ohio University students will present original work at the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo Thursday, May 3.

The annual event, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Convocation Center, will showcase projects on topics such as electric hybrid vehicles, rock operas, yo-yo dieting and how media shapes American political discourse.

Ohio University hosts the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo annually to demonstrate the results of its student research, scholarship and creative activity inside and outside of the classroom. About 600 undergraduates, graduate students, medical students and postdoctoral fellows will present 500 projects this year.

Student participants can choose to have their work reviewed by a panel of judges who award up to $200 in prize money to the top projects in various categories organized by discipline or related subjects.

Presentations will range from live performances, interactive demonstrations and exhibits to posters.

Middle school and high school students from area districts will visit the event to learn about conducting research and creative activity, as well as research and education opportunities for Ohio University students through the Office of Admission's "OHIO STEM Day" event.

The event, which is open to the university community and general public, will offer free pizza to attendees until 1 p.m.

The WOUB Center for Public Media will host a live broadcast of the event that can be viewed online from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. May 3.

The Student Research and Creative Activity Expo is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and the Dean of the Graduate College, Office of the President, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and University Libraries.
