From staff reports
Thanks to this year’s mild winter and early spring, Ohio University will begin the seasonal lighting of the cherry trees tonight.
The trees will be lit from 8 to 10 p.m. every night including weekends for approximately 2 weeks, beginning today.
In 1979, Japan’s Chubu University donated 175 Yoshino cherry trees in celebration of Ohio University’s 175th anniversary and the strong relationship between the schools. Each year, the University celebrates the arrival of the cherry blossoms and the welcome of spring with the Sakura (cherry blossom) Light Up.
