Forensics teams take top honors over weekend

Debate team and junior Tom Pinney win national championships

The "Debating" Bobcats of Ohio University were crowned national champions of the College Public Forum National Debate Tournament at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday.

The 2-1 victory over Ball State University in the final round gave the Bobcats enough points to win the National Championship Sweepstakes trophy. Junior Tom Pinney was named National Championship Speaker to help the Bobcats win all three national titles at the tournament.

This national team award is the sixth national team championship the Ohio University Forensics team has won in the last five years.

Additionally, the national championships in public forum debate and speaker mark the 25th and 26th individual national titles earned by Bobcats since the John A. Cassese Director of Forensics Dan West began coaching the team in 2005.
