On Wednesday, the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) released a crime alert for an act of aggravated arson that had occurred at 4 a.m. that day in True House on the first floor, Mod B.
Ohio University police officers responded to a report of a fire at True House. Upon arrival, they discovered a working fire in the study lounge of Mod B on the first floor. The building was evacuated and the Athens Fire Department responded to contain and extinguish the fire. No one was hurt and damage was limited to the study lounge.
A joint investigation by the OUPD, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Athens Fire Department has determined the fire was intentionally set. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time of the fire, or who has any other information relevant to the investigation, is urged to contact OUPD or the State Fire Marshal’s Office immediately at one of the numbers listed below.
A Blue Ribbon Arson Reward of up to $5000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for any information leading to the identification of the person(s) responsible for the fire.
