University and community members remember disaster victims in Japan

Candlelight vigil part of ceremony

The Ohio University and city of Athens communities came together to express their friendship, compassion, and hope for the tsunami and earthquake victims of Japan at a ceremony on April 6.

The devastating earthquakes and tsunami struck eastern Japan on March 11.

Students, community members, and University and city leaders joined in solidarity and a common bond of caring for their friends and colleagues in Japan on this designated day of reflection.

The candlelight ceremony was held at dusk on the Athens campus near the Yoshino and weeping cherry trees -- long beloved gifts from Chubu University commemorating the strong relationship between the two institutions.
