Great Job!

Meet July Classified Employee of the Month Jill Bean

Compass regularly features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

Q&A with Jill Bean, records management coordinator in Undergraduate Admissions:

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Extremely surprised. It was announced at an all-staff meeting with Louise Bell and Traci Winchell presenting me with my award and wonderful gifts.

What is your job title and what do you do?

I'm a records management coordinator. I process transfer applications for Undergraduate Admissions, preparing them for review and forwarding all admitted students to the colleges. I am also a liaison for regional campuses -- assisting them with the transfer process for consistency within all offices.

I've worked here for 14 years. I started as a data entry clerk adding freshman and transfer applications to SIS and have added responsibilities or changed positions until my current position.

I was raised in Chauncey and have made my home in the Albany area for the past 11 years.

What are your long-term goals?

I want to continue to learn and grow with the office and the university as a whole.

I help my husband on the farm (our other full time job) we currently 60 head beef cattle and produce crops, farming 150 acres of land. Any time left is spent with the family.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I have assisted in pulling several calves that were in distress. Since I am fairly new to the farm world (four years of experience), it would be surprising to some as to what all I can and have done, but being a part of the birth is amazing.
