The Ohio University Police Department said drivers should plan for traffic delays during Commencement weekend.

With ongoing road construction on US 33, Richland Ave and State Route 682 in the City of Athens, there will be heavy traffic congestion in these areas for Ohio University Commencement. Heavy traffic congestion is expected on Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12.
Visitors to the City of Athens and Ohio University for Commencement are encouraged to use the following alternate routes to help alleviate some of the traffic congestion and make their your visit a more pleasant one.
US Highway 33 East Bound
US 33 east bound traffic should exit US 33 at the Plains exit. Turn right onto SR 682 south and follow into Athens at the Union St. intersection. (Approximately 4 miles) Turn left onto Union St. Turn right onto Shafer Street and follow signs and police officer directions to parking and the Convocation Center.
US Highway 50/State Route 32 West Bound
US 50 west bound traffic should exit at Stimson Avenue. Follow Stimson Ave into City of Athens. Stimson Ave will change into Carpenter St at E. State St. Stay on Carpenter. Turn left onto Congress St. Follow Congress St. until it changes into Richland Ave. On Richland Ave follow signs and police officer directions to parking and the Convocation Center.
US Highway 50/State Route 32 East Bound
US 50/St Rt 32 east bound traffic should exit highway at County Road 19 (Radford Road). Turning left onto CO Rd 19 follow until it dead ends into St. Rt. 56. Turn right onto SR 56 and follow into City of Athens. At SR 682/SR 56 intersection, SR 56 will become Union Street. Travel straight through intersection onto Union St. Follow Union St. to Shafer Street. Turn right onto Shafer St. and follow signs and police officer directions to parking and the Convocation Center.
