Early this morning, a fire erupted in several of the buildings on Union Street, causing extensive damage. Approximately 40 students have been displaced. Our thoughts go out to all the members of our University and Athens communities affected by this incident.

Of immediate concern is the wellbeing of the students who have been displaced. The Dean of Students and her staff have been on scene and set up a comfort station in Baker University Center early this morning. In most cases, it appears that students may have lost all belongings and only a few managed to evacuate with laptops or other devices.

If you would like to provide additional assistance to these students, please make a gift by clicking here and selecting the OHIO Parents and Family Endowment designation from the drop down menu. Or to make a gift over the phone, please call David Johnson at 740-593-2632 or Carlyn Runnels at 740-593-2098. All funds received between today and Friday, Nov. 21 will be allocated for immediate spending to ensure the care of all students who were affected by this tragedy. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for choosing to make a gift to The Ohio University Foundation. We really appreciate your investment in the Promise of Ohio University!
