Statement of Core Value:

Ensure that the university community is well-informed with reliable information so that it may carry out its mission effectively and efficiently.  Ensure that the University is represented well to external agencies.

 Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education

 Unit Functions:

Communicate central information about Ohio University and provide analytical support for university planning, management, and assessment to academic units (e.g., Compendium of Planning Information).

Conduct assessment studies, retention studies, program effectiveness studies, etc.

Respond to data requests (e.g., ad hoc studies, SIS queries); analyze and interpret data.

Conduct student population and sample surveys (e.g., NSSE, Survey of Alumni).

Perform qualitative data analysis (e.g., Organizing for Learning meetings).

Serve academic and nonacademic units as research consultants.

Perform studies and analyses for specialized accreditation needs (e.g., AACSB, ABET).

Support academic unit assessment through instrument development, analysis, and interpretation (e.g., 30 department-specific Career and Further Education questionnaires).

Support departments/schools going through 7-year review/assessment.

Provide support for continuous improvement assessment activities (e.g., AQIP).

Collect and disseminate data from comparative state and national sources where available.

Serve data needs for Athens and regional campuses.

 Unit Functions:

Perform studies on all groups of students, faculty, and staff, including underrepresented groups.

Report information on all groups of students, faculty, and staff, including underrepresented groups.

Oversample underrepresented groups where appropriate and report results (e.g., Marketing Study).

Coordinate early female/minority student involvement intervention project.

Maintain historical data on underrepresented groups.

Conduct ethical, sensitive, and unbiased presentation of University data.

Support all academic and nonacademic units with University data.

 

Commitment to excellence in academic support and services

 Unit Functions:

Support academic and nonacademic units with research that informs effective and efficient practices.

Serve academic and nonacademic units as research consultants (e.g., Community Life Assessment).

Partner with offices of Admissions, Registration, Student Financial Aid, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Student Affairs, Advancement, Regional Higher Education, and others in collecting, reporting, analyzing, and interpreting Ohio University data.

Conduct nonacademic assessments (e.g., Student Involvement Study, Marketing Study).

Collect data from comparative state and national sources (e.g. American College Testing, OBOR)   Participate in a variety of state, national, and regional studies (e.g., AAUP faculty salary study, CUPA administrative salary study, Consortium on Student Retention Data Exchange).

Conduct studies and gather information for specific ad hoc questions through ready access to campus-wide student and employee data systems (e.g., studies of residential learning communities).

Maintain historical data for trend analysis. 

Demonstrate excellence of service to all university academic and nonacademic units.

 

Commitment to effective representation of Ohio University to external constituencies

 Unit Functions:

Serve as advocate for Ohio University in external reporting to maximize its position among peers in state and national reports and publications that are essential for the University to receive subsidy, financial aid, accreditation, and a positive public image.

Report Ohio University student enrollment data to maximize state share of student subsidy.

Report Ohio University faculty/staff, physical space, and academic program data to Ohio Board of Regents.

Serve as liaison unit between Ohio University and the Ohio Board of Regents on Higher Education Information data issues.

Serve as liaison unit between Ohio University and the Ohio Board of Regents for the annual Performance Report.

Serve as liaison unit between Ohio University and the North Central Association Higher Learning Commission on data issues.

Serve as liaison unit between Ohio University and the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics; coordinate and conduct data reporting for institutional characteristics, enrollment, degrees, faculty/staff, salaries, graduation rates, financial aid, and finance.

Report graduation rates to NCAA as part of Student Right to Know law.

Serve as liaison unit between Ohio University and private agencies; report information about Ohio University to over 30 annual surveys (e.g., US News, Petersonís, Princeton Review).

 

Commitment to effective and ethical communication and procedures that reflect each unitís primary mission

 Unit Functions:

Communicate central information about Ohio University to Provost Office and others to support university planning, management, and assessment.

Ensure that the university community is well-informed with reliable information so that it may carry out its mission effectively and efficiently.

Report institutional data pertaining to student enrollment and characteristics, faculty and staff, academic programs, and physical space.

Prepare and communicate institutional studies in such areas as academic assessment, student enrollment, retention and graduation, faculty salary and staffing, and comparative studies using peer institutions.

Transform data into information by increasing accessibility and understanding of information about Ohio University through the world wide web.

Serve as research consultants and assist in interpretation and analysis of University statistical information by participating in internal and external committees and to guide appropriate use and interpretation of Ohio University and comparative data.

Communicate accurate and reliable information on Ohio University.
