Leadership Essentials examines the subject of leadership using the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership outlined in the Leadership Challenge philosophy: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. Leadership Essentials provides tools and experience which enhance business functions, and address participants' strengths and opportunities for growth. The Leadership Essentials cohort provides opportunities to interact with university leaders, subject matter experts, and colleagues to exchange ideas and build collaborative relationships, as cohort members examine leadership issues they currently face, or anticipate facing in the future. Participants learn from each other and gain new perspectives. OHIO current events such as budget and academic priorities are infused into each session, creating an environment of lively discussion and debate. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a Leadership Essentials Certificate of Completion.
Performance Metric tools such as self assessments (completed by each cohort member), and 360° assessments (completed by each cohort member's supervisor, and numerous peers) are administered at the commencement of the program and again approximately six months after the conclusion.
Cohort members complete leadership projects, assessments, and activities geared toward strengthening leadership skills and are exposed to a variety of leadership frameworks.
