Many universities recognize urgent environmental dilemmas and embrace efforts to move campus operations and university culture toward sustainability. However, the broader academic mission across departments and programs is often slower to connect with sustainability efforts. The Piedmont Project at Emory University offers one model of a faculty development program that has fostered an enriching collaborative experience and has created considerable impact across the university.

The Pondersoa Project
The Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University is an interdisciplinary faculty group effort to incorporate environmental sustainability issues into university courses with the ultimate goal of providing future citizens the education and skills necessary to achieve sustainable communities and societies. Environmental sustainability is defined as the wise and just use of natural resources to maintain Earth's natural cycles while meeting human basic needs and protecting resources for future generations.
The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
Ohio University is a member of AASHE. AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, is a member organization of colleges and universities working to advance sustainability in higher education. AASHE works in partnership with businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies that supports their mission.
