Graduate Program: Applied Economics

Purpose

The program emphasizes practical applications of economic theory. It is organized to provide students with analytical tools by which they can solve many economic problems existing in the real world. The program is designed to provide students with practical econometric skills that are popularly used in both private and public sectors.

Students can choose their concentrations from development economics, environmental and resource economics, international economics, labor economics, public finance, money and banking, economic history, and mathematical economics. Ohio University has two specialized master's programs in International Studies and Environmental Studies. Those who want to study development economics or environmental economics have an opportunity to jointly pursue a dual degree with either of the two programs. Those who want to study economic history also have an opportunity to attain a certificate in contemporary history jointly with the Contemporary History Institute of Ohio University.

The program is structured so that all academic requirements can be completed within 15 months, beginning in the summer quarter and ending in August of the following year.
