Jan. 2 power outages to affect several buildings on Athens Campus

Electrical power outages related to the Walter Fieldhouse project have been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 2.

Beginning at 5 a.m. Jan. 2, the electrical power to the following buildings will be shut down: Porter Hall, Walter Hall and Grover Center. The power outage is expected to last one to two hours.

Also beginning at 5 a.m. Jan. 2, the electrical power to the following buildings will be shut down: Ping Center and the Golf and Tennis Clubhouse. The electrical power outage is required to safely terminate new power cable from the Walter Fieldhouse to the Ping Center. The power outage is expected to last six to eight hours.

The afternoon of Jan. 2, there will be a second power outage affecting Porter Hall, Walter Hall and Grover Center for approximately one to two hours to restore power to the Ping Center and the Golf and Tennis Clubhouse. This second outage will occur between 1 and 4 p.m.

The electrical power outage is subject to weather conditions. If below normal temperatures are forecasted, the power outage will be re-scheduled. The alternate day for the outage is Friday, Jan. 3.
