On April 13-15, Ohio University’s College of Fine Arts welcomed alumni and friends from as far away as Texas and California to celebrate the College of Fine Arts 75 years of inspiring lives.
The celebration’s theme of “Inspiring Lives” focused on celebrating the lives and accomplishments of current students, alumni, faculty and staff. Friday’s events began with open houses, receptions, workshops, open studios and speaker panels in each of the six schools throughout the day.
On Friday evening, The Kennedy Museum of Art hosted the School of Art Faculty Exhibition Reception where original artworks by School of Art faculty (teaching, emeriti and retired) were on display.
“It was great to see so many of our College of Fine Arts Alumni return to Athens for the 75th Anniversary Weekend,” said Dean Charles McWeeny. “Our faculty and staff have built an important bond with our alumni and have had such an impact on our students that the connection lasts beyond their short time here at Ohio University. We centered our 75th celebration on creating a time for our alumni to reconnect with who inspired them while giving them an opportunity to connect with our current students.”
The 75th Anniversary Weekend events continued on Saturday with lectures, performances, receptions and presentations by current students and faculty as well as alumni and retired faculty. The weekend events culminated on Saturday evening beginning with a cocktail reception at the Baker University Center Ballroom where alumni and friends had the chance to reconnect with past and current faculty and staff from the College of Fine Arts.
During the reception, a special presentation was made by Representative Debbie Phillips, Senator Troy Balderson and Ohio University Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit to congratulate the College of Fine Arts and Dean Charles McWeeny on 75 years of arts education at Ohio University.
Following the Reception the College Green came alive with open-air performances of dance, music, visual art and theatrical happenings by current Ohio University students. The evening ended with the Celebration Performance, hosted by acclaimed actress and 1979 OHIO alumna Vanessa Bell Calloway where the College of Fine Arts faculty who have spent years inspiring the lives of their students and have forever influenced the legacy of Ohio University were honored.
