University emergency update

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I'm writing to inform you that as a result of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Athens County yesterday, the Board of Athens County Commissioners declared a state of emergency for the County. The state of emergency was initiated in order to ensure maximum coordination at all levels of government within the County to protect and assist those affected by the emergency.

Ohio University did not sustain any damage from the storms and remains open but many of our neighbors in communities surrounding the University have been impacted. The University, upon request from the Athens County Chapter of the American Red Cross, opened a shelter at Weld House on the campus' South Green.

In addition to using e-mail communications, the University has an emergency webpage that provides updates during emergency situations at www.ohio.edu/emergency. Please bookmark this page and refer to it often to get the latest information about an emergency situation affecting the University.

Ohio University and their family members are able to utilize the 24/7 live professional assistance provided by the Employee Assistance Program by calling 800-227-6007 and students can contact Counseling and Psychological Services’ 24-hour service at 740-593-1616 for support during this time. More information will be forthcoming regarding how individuals may provide assistance to those in need.

Sincerely,

Renea Morris
Executive Director
