In the fall of 2010, the Appalachian Writing Project launched an inservice program aimed at serving area schools. As an affiliate of the National Writing Project, the AWP is NAPE-certified professional development. To schedule the AWP's professional development for your school, email awp@ohio.edu.

 

Our Teacher Consultant Bios

Susan Fletcher, Teacher Consultant

Susan Fletcher has over 20 years experience teaching all manner of communication courses at both the high school and college levels. For the past 6 years, she has taught courses at Hocking College in speech, composition, job search techniques, and interpersonal communication. She has used Web CT and other forms of technology in the classroom a great deal. In addition, she is a Teacher Consultant and Fellow of the 2008 Appalachian Writing Project Summer Institute at Ohio University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree from Arizona State. “Eclectic” and “busy” are the best two words to describe her. She is an avid fan of YouTube, almost all genres of music, reading autobiographical novels, playing Apples to Apples, and long walks in the woods … when she is not busy being mom to five kids, ages 12 to 25, “Nana” to her granddaughter, or wrestling with two nutty dogs who think they are human, Loki and Kola.

 

Susan Hagerty, Technology Liaison, Teacher Consultant

Susan Hagerty is a language arts teacher at Belpre High School. She also serves as the Technology Liaison for the AWP. She is a 2007 fellow of the Appalachian Writing Project.

 

Tonya James, Teacher Consultant

Tonya James is a fourth grade teacher at Union Furnace Elementary in the Logan Hocking School District. Tonya was a 2007 Fellow in the Appalachian Writing Project Summer Institute, held in Athens, Ohio. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early-Middle Childhood Reading/Language Arts. She has attended writing workshops in Athens, Cincinnati, and Albuquerque, and various other workshops in Oklahoma, Ohio, Illinois, and recently, Germany. Tonya enjoys teaching her fourth grade students the love of reading, writing, and exploring their own abilities to write. She has presented several writing workshops and Modern Germany workshops to the Logan Hocking School District.
