Add OU Holidays to your Calendar

Use the instructions below to add official University holidays to your Exchange calendar.  

It is also possible to add the Official Academic Calendar to your calendar in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010.  The Academic Calendar is available here.

Note: There are new versions of the files below as of 5/8/2012 to add the Winter Break days.

Using Outlook 2007 and 2010

  1. Download the Ohio University Holiday Calendar to your local computer by right-clicking on the file for the year you want.

        For 2013 use this file: Ohio2013Holiday.ics.
        For 2014 use this file: Ohio2014Holiday.ics.

    Choose Save Target As or Save Link As. Make sure to take note of where you save the file! The Desktop is often a good place so that you can easily find it later.

  2. Login to Outlook with your OU email address and password.In Outlook 2007 - From the File menu, select Import and Export...  In Outlook 2010 - Click the File tab, select Open, select Import...From the Import and Export Wizard, select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs). Then click Next

  4. In the Browse window that appears, navigate to the location where you saved the above file, select the file, and click OK. You will be prompted with a decision to import this calendar into a new calendar or to import it as items in your calendar. Select the Option that you prefer, see step 4 below for explanations.

  5.       - Open as New: This option will import the Ohio holiday calendar into a SEPARATE calendar in Outlook, and University holidays will not show on your regular Exchange calendar. You will show as available for meetings on University holidays.

          - Import:  This option will import the Ohio holiday calendar into your primary Exchange calendar so that University holidays are shown on your main calendar and shows you as Out of the Office on University holidays.

Using Entourage 2008 AND Outlook 2011

Download the Ohio University Holiday Calendar to your local computer by Ctrl-clicking on the file for the year you want.

    For 2013 use this file: Ohio2013Holiday.ics.

    For 2014 use this file: Ohio2014Holiday.ics.

            Choose Download Link or Save Link As. Make sure to take note of where you save the file! Most files are automatically saved to the Desktop or to the Downloads folder.

  1. Drag the .ics file on top of the Entourage icon in your dock.

The Ohio University official holidays will now appear in your Entourage calendar, and you will automatically show as out of the office on official University holidays.

Using iCal (Snow Leopard)

         Download the Ohio University Holiday Calendar to your local computer by Ctrl-clicking on the file for the year you want. 

      For 2013 use this file: Ohio2013Holiday.ics.

      For 2014 use this file: Ohio2014Holiday.ics.

        Choose Download Link or Save Link As. Make sure to take note of where you save the file! Most files are automatically saved to the Desktop or to the Downloads folder.

  1. In iCal, go the File menu, and select Import > Import...

  2. Navigate to where you saved the Ohio University calendar file(s), and select the file(s). Click Import.

  3. Select your Ohio University Exchange calendar from the drop-down menu, and click OK.

The Ohio University official holidays will now appear in your iCal calendar, and you will automatically show as out of the office on official University holidays.
