Applications for Kohei Miura Visiting Professorship due Jan. 31

The Ohio University-Chubu University Relations Committee (CRC) of the Center for International Studies is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Kohei Miura Visiting Professorship.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of formal relations between Ohio University and Chubu University, its sister institution in Kasugai City, Japan. Every year since 1973, the two institutions have exchanged faculty members through a visiting professors program, providing students and professors the unique opportunity of having a truly international learning experience. Faculty members who come to OHIO from Chubu University are called Robert Glidden Visiting Professors. OHIO faculty members who travel to Chubu University are Kohei Miura Visiting Professors – named in honor of the founder of Chubu University.

Kohei Miura Visiting Professors are expected to engage in an active program of scholarship that may include such activities as teaching a regular course or seminar; teaching short-term workshops; delivering lectures; giving guest presentations in classes and seminars; engaging in research activities; conducting independent study programs with students and/or professors; participating in outreach activities; and acting as consultants in areas such as library development, research and pedagogy.

Kohei Miura Visiting Professor applicants must be Group 1 faculty members who are available to be in residence at Chubu University during the fall semester – from mid-September to mid-December. Kohei Miura Visiting Professors are provided round-trip transportation, housing and a modest monthly expense reimbursement.

The deadline for applying for the 2014-2015 Kohei Miura Visiting Professorship is Friday, Jan. 31.

OHIO faculty members interested in applying for the professorship should prepare a current curriculum vitae and cover letter detailing their interest in the position, teaching capabilities and current research focus relevant to this position. That information should be addressed to the CRC and sent to Marian Carr, coordinator for global partnerships, at the Center for International Studies, Yamada International House, Athens, OH 45701; or e-mailed to carrm@ohio.edu.
