President encourages community support through United Appeal

On Dec. 13, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis sent an email to faculty and staff at OHIO's six campuses encouraging support for this year's United Appeal campaign.

Dear Colleagues:

This holiday season is a time for helping others in Athens County who need extra assistance and support, not only now, but throughout the year. That is why Ohio University partners to support the United Appeal annual fundraising campaign.

For 57 years, United Appeal has been working to serve our community, providing much-needed financial assistance to health and human service programs throughout the county. This year, the organization is partnering with a record 19 local agencies, all of which will benefit from OHIO's fundraising efforts.

With less than two weeks remaining in Ohio University's United Appeal campaign, we are still $16,851 short of the campaign's $50,000 fundraising goal. Today, I ask you to consider a gift – a small token of appreciation and support for a region that daily enhances the quality of life at our university.

Last year, Ohio University fell one percent shy of its 10 percent participation goal among faculty and staff, with about $45,000 raised. But we have raised the bar yet again. Why? Because we believe that the Ohio University community is a generous, philanthropic one whose support is capable of making people's lives in our region better.

With your help, we can meet this year's goal of 12 percent participation among University faculty and staff. We can exceed our $50,000 fundraising goal. And in the Ohio University spirit, we will help make our community a better place.

Please take a moment to review the pledge information you received to learn more about the United Appeal partner agencies and the ways a gift from you can help our neighbors, friends, and fellow community members.

Cordially,

Roderick J. McDavis
