Linda Cvetan named September Classified Employee of the Month

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award? I was very surprised to learn of my selection for this award.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it and at Ohio University? I am an administrative associate in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education and I have 18 years with the University, all of which have been for the same department.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job? The people I work with in the college and department as well as the heavy interaction with our students. Our students are the most important aspect of the position -- after all they are our customers and must come first.

What is your hometown and where do you live now? I was raised in New Marshfield, a small community about 8 to 10 miles west of Athens. Currently, I reside in Athens with my wonderful husband George.

What is the best thing about working at Ohio University? I feel very blessed to have my job with the University and have enjoyed most aspects of my position. The university, the Patton College of Education, and the Department of Counseling and Higher Education have been very good to me over the years. As for the one thing I enjoy most, it would have to be the people I have worked with, our students and others I have come to know and consider friends from across campus.

What are your long-term goals in life? At some point in my future, I am interested in taking classes to become a realtor after retirement.

What was the last good book you read? The Bible.

What are your favorite restaurants in Athens? Ruby Tuesday, Casa Lopez, Bob Evans, China Panda and Donato's Pizza.

What is your proudest moment? My children and grandchildren's accomplishments over the years because they "ROCK"

If you weren’t in your present job, what you would be doing? I would be working a part-time realtor. I enjoy viewing open houses and the various décor of the homes. I love people interactions and feel this would be a good fit for me after retirement.

What things are the most important to you? Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior and my family, who just happen to be the "Best" in the world!

Where is your favorite vacation destination? The beach or cruising the ocean somewhere and Hawaii.

What are your hobbies? Motorcycles, grandkids and family and shopping.

What is something that most people would be surprised to know about you? I love to ride motorcycles and I passed the State of Ohio Motorcycle Training Course.

What are your favorite TV shows? Bluebloods, The Good Wife, HGTV

Who are your favorite musicians? George Strait, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum

Who are your favorite celebrities? Tom Selleck. I appreciate his acting style.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV? My Toyota Solara convertible

What is your favorite saying or quote? "When God takes something from your grasp, He is not punishing you, but He's merely opening your hands to receive something better"
