Ohio University Zanesville Early and Middle Childhood Education majors invite area children to prepare to head back to school as they explore the habitat of oceans through children’s literature in a two-part program Commotion in the Ocean.
Youth participants will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with education majors under the direction of Beverly Bell, assistant professor of education. Commotion in the Ocean will be held in two week-long sessions in two age and developmentally appropriate formats.
The first program, for children who have completed kindergarten, first, or second grade, will be held Monday, Aug. 1 through Friday, Aug. 5. The second program, scheduled Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12, is for children who have completed third, fourth or fifth grade. Both week-long programs run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m..
Participants will engage in activities designed to review reading skills and will learn strategies to get the most from their reading. The theme of ocean will be explored through literature, art, storytelling and cooking projects as extensions to an all-encompassing program.
To register for either of the free weeklong programs, contact Bell at 740-588-1481 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org by the Friday prior to the beginning of the weeklong program, July 29 for K-3 or Aug. 5 for third through graders, to allow for appropriate planning. Registration is limited so be sure to call early.
