Street Corner Symphony to open Ben Folds concert

Street Corner Symphony, the season two runner-up in NBC's talent competition "The Sing Off", will be the opening act at the Wednesday, Jan. 26, Ben Folds concert in Athens, Ohio.

The six-man a cappella group will perform at 8 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

Formed in May of 2010 for the sole purpose of winning "The Sing Off," Street Corner Symphony is characterized by a unique, laid-back southern soul that helped earn them second place in the popular NBC competition. The group maintains a rich heritage in gospel music, yet still offers a diverse repertoire and demonstrates notable influences from artists like Take 6 and Allison Krauss.

The group members hail from all over the southeastern U.S., and each brings a unique background and character to the group. Currently, the group calls Nashville, Tenn., home.

The event is part of the OHIO Concert Series. Tickets start at $24. To order, call 740-593-1780 or visit www.ohio.edu/performingarts.
