The Miles Davis Experience Featuring the Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet
A new immersive musical and historical production, The Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959, recaptures the sound, historical, and cultural context of this ciritical period of American history through the lens of jazz music and its most iconic innovator, Miles Davis. Featuring Ambrose Akinmusire (Winner of both the 2007 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition) and his quintet, the band will stay close to the original recordings' sound and feel, drawing from the most noted and accessible Miles tracks starting from the 1949 recordings, through his Blue Note years, culminating in his masterpiece and commercial breakout KIND OF BLUE. Spoken word will drive the narrative in the style of the period, drawing from the noted poets of the era and writers that influenced Miles.
“Among jazz’s rising stars...Akinmusire is poised and confident on the bandstand, a resourceful player with a fat, crackling tone and plethora of ideas...” - San Francisco Chronicle
