Survey Technologies Evaluation Project
About the project
The current portfolio of survey technologies, Qualtrics and Class Climate (course evaluation platform), has been in use for over ten years and over time several additional survey tools (e.g., Survey Monkey, Google Forms, etc.) have been leveraged by Ohio University stakeholders. To better align this portfolio with the changing needs of the OHIO community, OIT is launching a survey tool evaluation process that will include a request for proposal (RFP). The goal of this process is to have a portfolio of survey technologies that support long term teaching and learning, research, and other information gathering goals of the University.
Immediate changes to the currently available survey tools are not in scope, and we will continue to support and make Qualtrics, Class Climate, and REDCap available. Should the RFP process award the University’s survey needs to another company (or companies), a transition plan will follow to ensure continuity in service.

Review the Survey Tools Usage Survey Findings
The Survey Tools Usage Survey closed on May 7 and was distributed to ~3,000 OHIO faculty, staff, and students. The results have been analyzed and will be used to help OIT understand survey tool usage and future needs, guiding the rest of the evaluation process detailed below.
Join the Surveys Advisory Community
The Surveys Advisory Community is comprised of faculty, staff and students and meets about once a month to discuss topics and trends related to surveys and to help influence the future of surveys at OHIO.
Expected next steps
We are currently in the requirements gathering phase which includes the following milestones:
- Understand usage and requirements through the usage survey and follow-up interviews
- Document the scope and goals of the RFP
- Establish an RFP Selection Committee.
We expect this phase to conclude in May 2021.
The RFP process will start in June 2021 and we hope to be able to announce the selected vendor(s) in early 2022.
Updates and progress announcements will be shared through the following methods:
- Monthly Surveys Advisory Community meetings
- Ad hoc conversation and updates through Advisory Community Teams channel.
- Periodic announcements in OHIO Employee News
