Ohio University's Music Therapy Department is one of the oldest music therapy degree programs in the United States, beginning in 1951. Rooted in a rich legacy of therapeutic academic instruction, our program stands as one of the oldest music therapy degree programs in the United States.

Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy

The curriculum consists of studies in music; music therapy; general studies and electives. General studies include classes in behavioral sciences, developmental, psychology, human development, and human biology and anatomy.

Music therapy trains students to restore, maintain, or enhance the cognitive, socio-emotional, and/or physical functioning of disabled persons of all ages.

As part of the music therapy studies, students will participate in pre-internship clinical experiences followed by a six-month internship.

Masters of Music in Music Therapy

Students enrolled in the program receive a comprehensive education in music and music therapy skills through classroom study, supervised community placements, with opportunities to conduct research.

Ohio University offers the Master of Music degree for students who have an undergraduate degree in Music Therapy and have earned their MT-BC and Master's plus Equivalency Degree for Students who have an undergraduate degree in Music.
