What is SCEC?

SCEC on the Ohio University campus is a student directed organization that supports the mission and beliefs of the national Council for Exceptional Children. CEC national “...is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

SCEC supports this mission by addressing special education issues of the students and the community, attending conventions, fundraising, and participating in community service projects throughout the academic school year.

JFROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARDJ

We would like to welcome you to the Ohio University Chapter of SCEC! We hope that everyone has had a relaxing summer break and a good start to the fall quarter! We have many ideas for SCEC, and we would like you to contribute your ideas to make this organization a success. Some ideas that the board has suggested are creating committees such as Social, Fundraising, Publicity (includes website and newsletter), and Community Service. We would also like to collaborate with other organizations on campus for larger fundraising and community service projects. This year we are starting a member recruitment campaign in hopes to gain new members and keep current members. We also have started this website and a quarterly newsletter. The SCEC Newsletter will be available each quarter. We look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you this year! Good luck with classes!
