one. Meeting Minutes for Thursday, April 3, 2003

Spring quarter is here, and that means oneweek is coming up. We spent the first meeting of the quarter preparing for its final schedule.

After appealing and receiving more money from SAC for bringing Melissa from The Real World: New Orleans, we're only $200 short. We're going to focus these next two weeks on fundraising. Our main plan is finding cosponsors (Liz is talking to the LGBT Programs Office and the Women's Studies Department, I'm talking to Residence Life, and Ian is approaching Multicultural Programs), and we're also planning on selling leis on Mom's Weekend. A last resort would be charging $1or $2 for the tickets to attend Melissa's progam. We've pushed back the dates for oneweek in order to raise this money.

The other programs we have tentatively scheduled for the week are the Baha'i workshop, the Tunnel of Oppression, Racism 101, the presentation by Jenny Hall-Jones, the allydrive, the picnic, the executive conference, and the oneball. We will be contacting the presenters of these programs about the date change.

To prepare for the allydrive, the meeting next week will be for button-making and pamphlet-folding, along with the normally scheduled social time. We will be signing up allies during oneweek, and we hope to have time at College Gate before that, too.

The second topic of discussion at the meeting was repairing the broken alliance with Open Doors. Liz talked to Paul and he has invited us to their meetings, and he has also given us the chance to speak at one of them about our organization. Their meetings are Wednesdays at 8 at UCM. Members of one that want to go are meeting at the Front Room ten minutes early and walking over together.

oneweek updates
The rescheduled week is May 5-9. We have the banner at College Gate reserved for May 7-9 to advertise for our event with Melissa from The Real World: New Orleans, which closes oneweek on May 9 at 8 p.m. (There will be no oneball this year.) We're only short a little money for Melissa, so we're hoping to cover that with what we make selling leis on Mom's weekend. We'll be promoting the week at this fundraiser, along with submitting ads to The Post and posting fliers around campus.

The tentative schedule:
Monday
Racism 101 (presented by S*T*A*R*S), 1804 Lounge, 8 p.m.
Tuesday
Speciesiem (presented by Animal Rights of OU), Alumni Lounge, 8 p.m.
Wednesday
Raising Children in a Gender-Dominated Society (presented by Jenny Hall-Jones), Alumni Lounge, 12:30 p.m.
Tunnel of Oppression
Thursday
Allydrive, Howard Hall Site, 12-4 p.m.
Friday
Baha'i workshop (?)
Melissa from The Real World: New Orleans, Morton 201, 8 p.m.

Liz found a cosponsor giving us $50 for the event with Melissa, so we're not charging admission. Ryan has volunteered to pick her up from the airport in Columbus on Friday; does anyone want to go with him?

next week's meeting
We'll be finishing the Tunnel of Oppression display (bring stuff!), and preparing signs for our fundraiser. Also, we'll be filling out SAC funding request forms, so come with programming ideas for next quarter.

other business
Keep in mind that nominations for oneboard positions are coming up soon.
I went to the Open Doors meeting two weeks ago, and had a lot of fun. I'll be going again next week, with the final oneweek schedule, and I hope this time more people can come with me and Sam and Cheryl!

fundraising
A signup sheet for selling leis on Saturday went around. We decided that we would also promote oneweek on Saturday by handing out quarter sheets of the schedule with the leis.

oneweek
The week has been moved one last time, to May 12-16, due to a change in Melissa's schedule. Here is the final schedule:
Monday - Racism 101, presented by S*T*A*R*S, 1804 Lounge, 6 p.m.
Wednesday - Raising Children in a Gender-Dominated Society (brown-bag lunch), presented by Jenny Hall-Jones, Alumni Lounge, 12:30 p.m.
Thursday - Speciesism, Alumni Lounge, 8 p.m.
Friday - Melissa from The Real World: New Orleans, Irvine Auditorium, 8 p.m.
The Allydrive table will be set up at each event on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Melissa arrives in Columbus on Friday at 3:05 p.m. Does anyone want to go with Beam to pick her up? Beam and I will be taking her back in time for her 11:30 a.m. departure on Saturday.
The Tunnel of Oppression has been cancelled by S*T*A*R*S, so that is why it's not included in the week.

promoting oneweek
We'll be doing Post Ads twice: early in the week we'll submit a schedule, and then on Thursday we'll have one just advertising the event with Melissa. Ian is taking care of this, along with the banner at College Gate, which we have from May 7-9.
At next week's meeting, we'll be putting up schedules of oneweek in the academic buildings. Fliers for Melissa are being given to Residence Life to be put up in the residence halls.
We have one day at College Gate to set up the Allydrive, and that's this Thursday. We'll be using that space to promote the week, also. A message will be sent out to the listserv so that people can sign up.
