Zanesville Campus Dean Announced

Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit and Executive Dean of Regional Higher Education Bill Willan announce the appointment of Jeremy Webster, Ph.D., to dean of Ohio University’s Zanesville Campus after a comprehensive search.

Webster currently serves as the dean of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College, a position he has held since 2009.

“Dean Webster has shown incredible growth as a leader during his time at Honors Tutorial College and is a valued part of my academic leadership team,” Benoit said. “I know that Jeremy is personally and professionally committed to increasing pathways to quality academic opportunities for students. Ohio University Zanesville is an integral part of Ohio University’s dual mission of educational access and educational excellence.”

In announcing the appointment, Willan cited Webster's exemplary record of service to the English Department, the Faculty Senate and the University.

“His service shows his commitment to cultivating a collaborative and collegial environment,” Willan said. “He will be a valuable addition to the Regional Higher Education leadership team.”

Webster has held roles as a faculty member and academic administrator at Ohio University since 1999, serving as an assistant and associate professor in the Department of English, coordinator of the honors program in the Department of English and director of studies of the English Honors Tutorial Program, before being appointed dean of the Honors Tutorial College. He was a fellow of the American Council on Education Emerging Leaders Program and the Ohio Academic Leadership Academy.

As dean of the Honors Tutorial College, Webster oversaw the restructuring of staff and procedures in implementing the University’s new budget model, expanded the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, developed a college mission statement and strategic plan and revitalized the college’s alumni network and advisory board. Webster was also involved in developing a new campus-wide honors program, Ohio University Honors, which is expected to serve up to 1,000 students.

Webster earned his master’s degree in English from Texas A&M University and his doctorate in English from the University of Tennessee.

His appointment will begin Monday, June 5, 2017.

Honors Tutorial College Associate Dean Cary Frith will serve as interim dean effective June 6, 2017, through June 30, 2018. A search process for the new Honors Tutorial College dean will be initiated during the fall semester.
