CEU -Increasing RIgor with 21st Centrury Learning Skills

Attention Educators 

Are you looking for continuing education opportunities?  Beginning this fall, Ohio University Zanesville will be offering a variety of credit-based workshops designed for educators at all levels.  Each workshop will yield one graduate credit. 

 

Four continuing education workshops are planned for the 2019-2020 academic year.  Each is scheduled for a Saturday class meeting (9 am to 4 pm) on the Ohio University Zanesville campus; the initial date noted in conjunction with each workshop is the planned meeting date.  Additional work will be online; a total of 5 weeks will be allotted for completion of the course project, thus allowing participants flexibility which can be tailored to individual needs and calendars.  

Increasing Rigor with 21st Century Learning Skills


Oct. 5-Nov. 9, 2019 Instructor: Jill Sheridan
Participants will tap into students’ problem solving and creativity as they prepare for their future. These lesson extent the information, images, interaction, inquiry, and innovation to create and solve complex challenges inside and outside the classroom. Teachers can transform existing lesson plans, activities and assignments into more complex classroom challenges. Educators will learn how to bring the current standards alive and go deeper into the depth of knowledge.


Brain-Based Strategies to Increase Student Learning


Jan. 18-Feb. 22, 2020 Instructor: Jill Sheridan
Increase teacher effectiveness by taking advantage of a basic understanding of how the brain works during student learning. You will learn which instructional strategies help to increase Memory, Learning, and Test-taking. You will discover how to captive and hold student attention centered around Social-Emotional learning. You will find innovative techniques for designing assessments and adjusting teaching practices to ensure that
all students succeed.


Closing Achievement Gaps


March 7-April 17, 2020 Instructor: Jill Sheridan
Performance disparity is often seen among students when grouped together by socioeconomic status, race, or gender. This gap is as unique for each child as their fingerprint. Yet, teachers have the power and the ability to close the achievement gap for students. Participants in this workshop will expand their awareness of the
researched best practices to add to their toolbox. This will allow them to explore tried and tested strategies to begin closing the achievement gap in their classroom one student at a time.


Trauma-Informed Educational Practice


June 6-July 3, 2020 Instructor: Teri Peasley
To be trauma-informed is to understand the ways in which violence, victimization, and traumatic experiences
impact the lives and development of one’s students. This course focuses on understanding the effects of
trauma on students’ social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Aspects of a trauma-informed
classroom, advocacy, and compassion fatigue will be addressed to support educators in responding to the
diverse needs of their students.

Cost for Each Workshop: $133 (1 hr academic credit)
