Ohio University Zanesville invites the community to attend “Perspectives of International Service,” a panel discussion featuring staff and students who served overseas during their military service. The panelists will share their perspectives on various aspects of culture and the relationships they encountered during their service.


International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education that strives to promote international understanding and build support for international educational exchange.


Stoey Stout, the panel moderator, earned a degree in German and French Languages from Brigham Young University, is a graduate of the military’s Defense Language Institute Arabic language program and earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. He received the bronze star for his service in Desert Storm.


The panelists include Billie Mautz, Administrative Associate for the Academic Division at Ohio University Zanesville, served the US Army from 1978 to 1980; Kyle Raisbeck, Human Biology major at Ohio University Zanesville, who served the US Army from 1988 through 2012. During his 24 years of military service, Sergeant First Class Raisbeck served as a Ranger for four years, served as a medic and was in Special Forces; Christina Thompson, Sport and Lifestyle Studies major and one of the Student Veterans Representative at Ohio University Zanesville, served the US Navy Seabees from 1999 through 2002. During her service EO3 (SCW) Lipscomb now Mrs. Thompson served abroad in Spain and in Guam; and Larry Tumblin, Director of Information Technology here on campus, served the US Army from 1987 to 1991. During his service Sergeant Tumblin served abroad in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait and traveled in Italy, France and Holland.


The Perspectives of International Service program wraps up a weeklong International Education Week celebration. The event will be held in the Elson Hall Auditorium on Thursday, November 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. For the complete schedule visit
