According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), “eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health concern.” NEDA, a non-profit aimed at providing support for individuals and families impacted by eating disorders, offers free resources on their website and through a toll-free helpline.
To help build awareness of this important issue in Athens, Baker and her team of nutrition students will be hosting the following events during NEDA Week (February 25 – March 3). All students, faculty, staff and community members seeking support or information are encouraged to attend both events.
Tuesday, February 26, 2019: Tabling
10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Stop by the WellWorks NEDA-Week table on the first floor of Baker Center to connect with a Dietitian, pick up information on eating disorders prevention and treatment, and discover how to help a friend in need.

Join Selena Baker, WellWorks Nutrition Counselor, and her nutrition student team during NEDA Week to build awareness of eating disorders, on-campus resources, and the hope and healing that recovery brings. The 2019 NEDAwarenes Week theme is "Come As You Are." We encourage all interested individuals to come as you are, not as you think you should be.
Ongoing information about nutrition and eating disorders will be made available on the Ohio University WellWorks facebook page. This 60 minute class will meet once per week for a 4 week-long session. This class series is focused around building knowledge of alignment and how yoga can be used as a restoration method. The class will include slow flow yoga movement to build heat, gentle & restorative postures, breath & guided meditation. The course participants will utilize the yoga wall and other props to achieve relaxation of body & mind. A small class size guarantees personalized assistance on pose and body alignment.
Difficulty Level: Beginner to Advanced. This yoga series applies to anyone who has tension, stress, or body pain. We’ll explore ways that yoga can help provide relief from pain - head to toe! Each week, this yoga series will focus on a different body part/area to learn ways to help relieve pain, to stretch, strengthen & lengthen muscles and how to use active relaxation to relieve tension.
Upcoming WellWorks specialty classes for The Great Yoga Wall are listed below. Specialty classes are offered at a discounted rate to members, but do require a fee due to the limited class sizes and high level of personalized assistance participants receive from the instructors. To register for any of our specialty classes, please call the WellWorks front desk at 740.593.2093 or stop by WellWorks (Grover Center E124).
