Ohio University is making COVID-19 Student Emergency Microgrants available to help OHIO students who are experiencing financial difficulty. If you are struggling financially right now, you can submit an application.
Due to the evolving situation surrounding COVID-19, the Cats’ Cupboard Food Pantry will be transitioning to a twice a week drive-up option of prepackaged bags of food, by appointment only.
Food donations can be made on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. by dropping donations at the first-floor entrance to Baker Center next to the Maggie Davis Room. Monetary donations can be made through OHIO’s Giving webpage.
Social distancing? How about distant socializing?
You are not alone! All your fellow Bobcats are going through the same experience.
- FaceTime, social media, text or Skype are excellent ways to stay connected during uncertain times.
- Every morning, ask yourself, “Who can I connect with today?” Send that someone a message saying you are thinking of them.
International Women's Coffee Hour is now weekly (Tuesdays, 4PM-5PM) and online to support our international community and their allies in connecting socially - while remote. Beginning March 24th through April 29th (dates may be extended), at 4PM, you can grab your own cup of coffee or tea and join us through Microsoft Teams (phone-in option also available).
Practice Being an Ally
Some people in your community may be having a harder time than others. Now is a great time to remember how you can support your fellow Bobcats!
- Consider making a Progress Pledge for OHIO’s LGBTQ+ community members.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic, a rise has been seen in prejudice against community members of Asian descent. Take a stand and report incidents of bias.
- Connect with the centers within the Division of Diversity and Inclusion to learn more about building an inclusive OHIO community.
The LGBT Center's #RainbowResilience Series
Published every other weekday, this series presents different strategies to stay healthy and persevere through tough times. Tips range from staying active to good hygiene and volunteering.
Moving forward, this series will also address strategies for LGBTQ+ to persevere even if they are having to live in less-than-accepting family environments.

The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) is leading a country-wide movement challenge that enables university students, faculty and staff to participate and compete against other colleges and universities.
Ohio University Campus Recreation and WellWorks are leading the initiative for OHIO by developing fitness classes that will be available virtually.
The OHIO community can access these online fitness resources by first completing the liability form. The university with the highest self-reported active minutes will win the challenge and enjoy bragging rights. Go Bobcats!
During this time, we understand how challenging and essential it is for Bobcats in recovery to maintain sobriety. Ohio University recovery services are still happening remotely and we encourage you to reach out. Recovery meetings take place twice a week via Teams. Contact Ann Addington to join upcoming meetings.
Give yourself — and your students — lots of empathy and encouragement!
Pat yourself on the back for persevering and adjusting to these difficult times!
You are doing the best you can under less-than-ideal circumstances. The Bobcat community is grateful for your talents and skills.
Now is not the time to expect excellence. This does not mean “lowering” your standards, but understanding, through empathy, that your best — and your students’ best — may look different than usual.
Stay engaged with your colleagues and professional networks
Working in isolation can take a toll, and we all need support. Check in with your co-workers and offer your assistance — and ask for assistance!
This time is also an opportunity to strengthen professional ties. If you are a member of a professional organization, reach out to other members and trade strategies and tips.
Remember inclusive practices and support students in the online classroom
Our teaching, learning and working formats may have changed temporarily but our commitment to diversity and inclusion remains the same.
If you are an instructor, now is a great time to remember LGBTQ+ inclusive teaching practices and share campus resources with all of your students.
WellWorks Zoom Get-Togethers
WellWorks is hosting two weekly Zoom Get-Togethers for people to connect in meaningful, social ways:
- Mondays at 9 a.m.: Happy Half Hour (30 minutes of jokes and social time to set a positive tone for the week and see familiar faces).
- Wednesdays at 8 a.m.: Practicing Mindfulness (10-minute session of support for practicing mindfulness to support resiliency in times of stress).
