People2 Retirement

Last June, OIT announced that the university's personal web page hosting service would be retired on June 1 of this year. Based on faculty and staff feedback, rather than completely retiring that service, we will offer an updated version with slightly different features.

We still are working out a few final details for the new version of the service. In the original retirement notices, we stated that People2 would be decommissioned on June 1, 2017; however, OIT will NOT decommission the People2 server until the replacement is online and available

Important Details

  • Eligibility: Current faculty, staff, and emeriti.
  • Availability: The new service will be available for at least 5 years. In year 4, we will conduct an evaluation to determine the need for continuing the service.
  • Migration: Instructions will be available if you want to move your current personal web page content to the new service.
  • We will not decommission the old People2 server until after the new content without any service interruption.

We originally decided to retire this service due to a combination of
declining usage, changing technologies, and high costs. Less than
half-a-percent of OHIO users have content on people2, and this number
continues to decline. Fortunately, we found a more cost-effective solution.

Feedback from faculty and staff, however, has made it clear that we do
still need to offer some form of personal web hosting for employees. We
will provide more details in the coming weeks.
