Registration now open to compete for cash prizes in the 2017 Expo Pitch Competition

Undergraduate and graduate students from any program across campus are invited to participate in the 2017 Expo Pitch Competition on April 6, 2017. The annual competition allows students to pitch business or innovation ideas to experts from the venture capital, business and banking professions and compete for cash prizes.

The competition will occur during the Student Research and Creativity Expo on April 6, but students do not have to register for the Expo to participate in the pitch competition. New this year, students will have the chance to participate in two different competitions: either the traditional pitch or the three-minute fast pitch.

Cash prizes will be award to winners in each category, and the Center for Entrepreneurship and TechGROWTH Ohio will feature the ideas on their websites. The cash prize amounts for 2016 winners were as follows: $1,200 for first place; $800 for second place; and $300 for third place. Prizes amounts remain undecided for 2017. At the discretion of the judges, successful technology pitches with the potential for commercialization may receive an offer to consult with TechGROWTH.

All participants for both categories must register by 5 p.m. on Mar. 17 and submit a one-pager describing the idea to Megan Weber. Full-pitch competition participants are required to attend one of the workshops on either Mar. 24 or 27 from 1-2 p.m. in Baker.  Fast-pitch participants’ attendance at the workshops is optional.

Competition finalists will be notified by April 3. The sponsors of the competition are the Center for Entrepreneurship, a partnership between the College of Business and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, and TechGROWTH Ohio.
