Waste to Resource: Appalachian Ohio Zero Waste Initiative

Nearly ten years ago, the Sugar Bush Foundation had a vision to decrease landfill waste, increase recycling, and turn waste from a liability to an asset in southeast Ohio. The Foundation approached Rural Action and Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs to tackle the challenge. With the Foundation’s support, the Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative (AOZWI) was launched in the fall of 2010.
