First-year Guest Schedule

Evening Before BSO Program - Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday

Residence Hall Overnight Accommodations Check-in (Optional)
Students and their guests have the option to stay on campus in a residence hall the night before their orientation program. There will be no sessions or programmatic elements during the stay. Students can sign up for this when signing up for orientation. Fees apply.

The check-in process will include a residence hall check-in for all students and an optional check-in for guests choosing to stay on campus overnight. Recommended arrival times are based on last names: A-D (7:00); E-K (7:25), L-Q (7:50), R-Z (8:15)

Program Check-in
After checking into the residence hall, all students and guests will need to complete a program check-in before heading to the first session.

Programs and services will host tables for students and their guests to connect and learn more about available resources.

Meet the orientation team, review the orientation program schedule, and hear from the University administration.

9:55-10:10 a.m. OHIO History and Traditions (with students)
Learn more about the rich history of Ohio University and how you can become a part of that legacy.

Our students will share perspectives on what it means to be a new student joining our community.

11:45-12 p.m. Understanding FERPA
The Registrar’s Office will discuss FERPA policies and procedures, as well as how those policies impact families.

1:20-2:05 p.m. Family and Guest Roundtable Discussions
Program participants will have an opportunity to select topics they are interested in to have lightly facilitated conversations. Discussions will be facilitated by orientation leaders and campus partners.

2:15-3:15 p.m. Family and Guest Academic Session with Colleges
Connect with your student’s academic college and learn about University, college, and major requirements.

3:30-5:20 p.m. Bobcat Breakout Sessions
Take ownership of the orientation experience by choosing which content is most important to you or applies to your student’s individual needs. Students and guests will select which sessions to attend in half-hour session blocks with ten-minute transition times in between. Topics include: Owning Your Academic Success, Living on Campus, Paying for College, and many more.

6:30-7:30 a.m. Early Residence Hall Check-out
Students and guests who stayed on campus during the program can check out of their rooms first thing in the morning to get a head start for their trip home following the program.

8:15-8:50 a.m. Owning Your New Student Transition
Orientation Leaders will discuss typical concerns in the new student transition and resources to support those transitional experiences.

8:50-9 a.m. Student Dismissal  
9:10-10 a.m. What I Wish My Family Knew
Our orientation leaders will share their own stories about interactions with their family members in their own transition. An opportunity for guests to ask direct questions of the student panel will also be included.

10-10:30 a.m. Supporting Students In Transition
Learn about the transitional experience students are going through and how family members/guests can support them. Our staff will close the session with a few reminders for all guests in attendance, including an opportunity to provide feedback to our team.

Students and guests who stayed on campus during the program must check out by 1 pm.

Resource Fair                                                 
Have new questions to ask or missed someone on Day 1? Go back to the Resource Fair before leaving the program to connect with those offices. Don’t forget to finish the letter to your student and drop it off at the Resource Fair

Visit residence hall rooms for a better understanding of what it will be like to live on campus. Options will be provided on each green.
