Dr. Sang-Soo Kim studies asphalt pavement and the efficiency of materials and methods used in construction and repair of roadways. He is an expert in properties of asphalt and other roadway materials, their applications, impact on durability in temperature extremes and reducing repair and maintenance costs.
Kim is also an entrepreneur and inventor, having founded EZ Asphalt Technology and developed the patented Asphalt Binder Cracking Device (ABCD), which measures asphalt binder strength and the exact point of low-temperature cracking. The device is a practical solution to the costly problem of asphalt repair that sets a national standard for asphalt testing.
