News and Compass
Compass serves as the primary news and information source for Ohio University. When visiting Compass , one can expect to read about the latest happenings at not only the Athens Campus, but at all of OHIO’s campuses and centers around the state.
Compass is updated daily and aims to be a creative, fun, informative and user-friendly news vehicle by sharing the stories that make the OHIO community a great place to be, whether you are studying, working or visiting. In addition to written stories and briefs, the site contains videos, photos, announcements, accolades and calendar events. Links to external Ohio University-affiliated news stories and the latest national higher education news is featured, too.
Many of the news stories that appear in Compass are distributed to Ohio University faculty, staff, friends and parents on Thursdays via the Compass e-mail. Compass stories also are featured on the University’s homepage and are promoted through the official Ohio University Twitter account, @ohiou.
To submit stories for Compass email consideration, please contact one of the following members of the UCM Communication Services team no later than 5 p.m. (ET) each Wednesday:
- Carly Leatherwood, senior director, Communication Services, email@example.com
- George E. Mauzy Jr., multimedia content specialist, managing editor of Compass, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Alaina Bartel, multimedia content coordinator, email@example.com
In addition to Compass, the Communication Services team digitally distributes OHIO Employee News (OEN), which provides need-to-know information to Ohio University faculty and staff every Monday morning. The deadline to submit stories for inclusion in OEN is each Friday at noon. For more information, visit https://www.ohio.edu/ucm/communications/ohio-employee-news.
The Communication Services team also maintains the Campus Communicator Guide, a resource for communications professionals throughout the University that provides an overview of services, step-by-step guides to using tools like the Compass website, the Calendar of University Events (CUE) and the Compass style guide.
