Nominations for the 2017-2018 awards are now closed.

For information about these awards, please refer to the information provided below.

Award Categories (click on Award title to submit a nomination)

Faculty Sustainability Research & Advocacy Award: This recognition is awarded to a faculty member who has made exemplary contributions to his or her field through sustainability-related research. This faculty member has either participated in their own sustainability research or served as an advocate for increased sustainability research and activities at Ohio University.

Student Sustainability Leader(s) Award:   This award is intended to recognize one student (or student group) who has excelled in sustainable actions and leadership at Ohio University during their time as a student. This can include class projects, club events, personal behaviors/actions, volunteerism and the like. This award is open to both undergraduate students and graduate students.

Staff Sustainability Advocate Award : This award is given to a staff member who has served as an advocate for advancing sustainability initiatives at Ohio University or served in a support role to assist student, faculty or staff led initiatives.

Exemplary Sustainable Department Award: This award is given to an office or department at Ohio University that has shown great leadership in a variety of sustainable behaviors including, but not limited to, advancing the Sustainability and Climate Action Plans, encouraging health and wellness among its employees, investing in local goods and services, reducing its landfilled waste generation, participating in energy reduction efforts, and engaging in shared office resources.   Any Department which completes the Sustainable Department Certification program will be automatically nominated in this award category if a certification application was submitted within the past academic year.

Residential Housing Sustainability Award: Residential Housing floors (or mods) are invited to participate in the Residential Housing Sustainability Award. Each floor is asked to attend or host sustainability-related programs, events or conversationsthroughout the academic year. These programs do not need to be directlysponsored by the Office of Sustainability. The nominator must merely be able to explain how the floor has committed to sustainabilityon multiple occasions.

OoS Student Leadership Award (Peer Review): Office of Sustainability's student interns and employees are integral in the advancement of sustainability efforts at Ohio University. This award is given to the student working in the Office of Sustainability or enrolled in ES4832/5832 who has gone above and beyond office expectations by serving as a support system, engaging in activities outside of their job/course description, offering creative and helpful suggestions and sharing their passion for sustainability with others. This award is voted on by peers within the office and Spring 2018 ES4832/5832 class, though any OHIO student, faculty or staff may nominate an OoS student employee (or student enrolled in ES4832/5832 during the current academic year). For a list of our current student employees, please navigate to the Staff page.

Innovation Recognition:   This award was added in 2015 in response to a desire to recognize innovative community efforts aimed at improving the sustainability profile of Athens County!   Any student, faculty, staff or community member (or group) is invited to be nominated for recognition of innovative support, ideas or programs that help support community-wide sustainability efforts.
