Second Year Experience
The Second Year Experience initiative began in Summer 2008 in Residential Housing and since has become a Division of Student Affairs Task Force. The task force was given a charge to look closely at division-wide resources and to present a plan of action to address a division-wide second year experience initiative. Programs and Activities
Looking for new educational and social experiences? Needing to broaden your horizons and meet new people? Feeling like you are in a second year slump? The second year experience program is designed to engage students in academic, social, career, wellness, and community learning experiences beyond the support received during the first year at Ohio University.
As a result of participating in Ohio Second Year Experience programs, students will:
- Enhance social relationships with peers, faculty, staff, alumni and community. (Community, Civility)
- Articulate a process of self-discovery by utilizing critical thinking skills, recognizing individual responsibility, and developing emotional intelligence. (Character, Civility, Commitment)
- Demonstrate focused exploration to define academic and career goals. (Commitment)
- Develop role as a global citizen. (Community, Character, Civility, Citizenship, Commitment)
