Welcome Week Fast Approaching

The 2013-2014 academic year gets under way with Go Green Week, beginning Thursday, Aug. 22.

The Office for Multicultural Student Access and Retention’s LINKS pre-matriculation registration/welcome session at 1:30 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium will kick things off. The first day closes with Movies on the Green. Students can attend a free screening of Now You See Me at 8 p.m. on the West and South Greens. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Orientation for transfer students who didn’t attend a summer orientation session also will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday in Baker University Center and run throughout the day. New student orientation will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in Baker Center.

Campus residence halls will welcome new and returning students at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. The Bobcat Bash will follow at 8 p.m. in Baker University Center, offering free food, music, activities and prizes. Students also can attend a women’s soccer game at 4 p.m. that afternoon when the Bobcats take on Indiana at Chessa Field.

Academic colleges will welcome their students with an event at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. Campus Rec’s Peace, Love & Rec is planned for 8 p.m. to midnight that night. The event will include a DJ, food and games, along with representatives of all the Campus Rec facilities, who will have information about all the recreational resources available to students. All the Ping Center facilities, including the climbing wall, will be available for use.

Floor meetings will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, in all the residence halls immediately prior to the President’s Convocation for First-Year Students at 2:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The Student Involvement Fair will be held on the College Green after the convocation. The fair, organized by the Campus Involvement Center, will feature representatives of all the student organizations on campus.

The week’s events will close with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
