Hockey fans have more than just Bobcat wins to look forward to this season. In collaboration with Culinary Services, Bird Arena recently launched a new-and-improved concession stand, Rinkside, vastly expanding culinary options for OHIO’s winter sports enthusiasts and fans.
“This is a new partnership between Culinary Services and Campus Rec, and I think we will do great things together,” said Amber Crosbie, the general manager of Rinkside. “Both groups work hard to provide the best product, services and events to the students on campus, and I am happy to play a part in that.”
Rinkside opened for business on Tuesday, Sept. 5 during its Learn to Skate Open House. Attendee Risa Whitson, an associate professor of geography whose children participate in the Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs, said her family will likely be frequent customers at Rinkside, given the many hours that they spend at Bird Arena during the winter months. Whereas Whitson expressed excitement about the menu variety overall, her daughter's enthusiasm came down to one item.
"Sure, they have a bunch more food, but I'm most excited for Muddy Buddies," said Whitson's daughter, Aviva. "I'm hoping to buy them after my next skating practice."
From 7 to 11 a.m., Rinkside will offer a number of breakfast options, including bagels, donuts, fruit and oatmeal. Hot dogs, pizza, beef brisket sandwiches, salads, mac & cheese and chili are among the options to be offered during the remaining hours of operation. For a full menu, click here.
“We definitely have some unique menu items for a concession operation,” said Crosbie. “I think the fans and parents will enjoy the variety of hot food we provide and the quality products. We have had lots of positive feedback so far and are excited for more people to try our food.”
