In July, Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Pina challenged upperclassmen to tell or show why they love Ohio University for an opportunity to speak at the President’s Convocation for First-Year Students. Over the past month, numerous OHIO students submitted contest entries—including photos, essays, videos and even a Google Maps rendering—using the #LoveOHIO hashtag. Of these entries, three finalists have been selected: Chais Michael, Kevin Thiel and De'Vaughn Williams. Their contest entries can be viewed at the #LoveOHIO finalists site.
The #LoveOHIO contest winner will be determined by student vote, which takes place from Aug. 2-5. Each student may cast one vote by taking the #LoveOHIO survey. The selected speaker will be announced on Aug. 8 through the Division of Student Affairs’ Twitter account, @OHIOStuAffairs.
The President's Convocation for First-Year Students will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 in the Convocation Center. More than 4,000 students are expected to participate in the annual ceremony, which features the official induction of OHIO's Class of 2021 by Ohio University's new president, Dr. M. Duane Nellis.
