April 17 Leadership Awards Gala to honor exceptional students, organizations

Ohio University’s most exceptional student leaders will be recognized at the University’s annual Leadership Awards Gala. In its 36th year, the event celebrates the outstanding leadership and community service of students and student organizations across OHIO’s campuses.

The gala will take place Wednesday, April 17, in the Baker University Center Ballroom on OHIO’s Athens Campus. Hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the ceremony will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Empower,” attendees can expect to see a few of OHIO’s Division of Student Affairs (DOSA) employees represented by their superhero counterparts as the University acknowledges the superpower-like commitment students offer to their OHIO community.

“Year after year we are blown away by the hard work and achievements of OHIO students,” said Jenny Hall-Jones, senior associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students, who oversees the event’s planning committee. “We are excited to honor those who empower their fellow students, our staff and the community.”

More than a dozen awards and scholarships will be bestowed upon OHIO students and student groups by DOSA as well as other planning units throughout the University. Awards recognize students’ commitment to the Division’s core values of character, commitment, civility, community and citizenship.

“While we take pride in each and every Bobcat, OHIO’s leadership awards are an opportunity to recognize exceptional students who are making a positive impact both on and off campus,” said Jason Pina, vice president for student affairs. “I want to thank all of our student applicants, those who nominated them and all the faculty and staff that make this event possible each year. I’m thrilled have yet another opportunity to shed light on so many student success stories at our 36th annual Leadership Awards Gala.”

OHIO’s Division of Student Affairs (DOSA) will be partnering with Passion Works Studio again this year to honor notable student leaders. Each honoree will receive an award created by Passion Works artists, and artists’ work will be on sale during the event.
