Bobcat Parents & Families,
As midterms are wrapping up, students are reminded that registration for summer semester is open, and registration for fall semester is fast approaching. Students can meet with their own advisors or reach out to the Allen Student Advising Center for any guidance. And if your student completed any exciting research or produced an awesome creative project as part of their midterms work or throughout the year, encourage them to show off their work at the Virtual Student Expo.
We are so close to the first day of Spring, and with the nicer weather often comes the opportunity to gather with friends. I ask you to remind your students not only to socialize safely, as we are still taking every necessary COVID precaution, but also to practice being a Better Bystander for their peers. Bobcats should always look out for each other, and step in and speak up when they see another student in an unsafe situation.
I hope you’re getting this sunshine wherever you are today and have the time to enjoy it.
Dean of Students
Be a Better Bystander
As the weather gets nicer this spring and you take part in safe socializing, remember to practice being a Better Bystander to your peers and friends. Know the Four D's model of bystander intervention: Direct- Get involved! Delegate- Find someone to help! Distract- Disrupt the situation! Delay- Respond with empathy, share appropriate resources, and hold space with someone who is disclosing an act of violence. If you're interested in taking your efforts even further, consider becoming a Peer Health Educator.
Feature your work at the Virtual Student Expo
Showcase your creativity and research at the Ohio University Virtual Student Expo! The registration deadline is March 15. You can participate through posting on social media on the day of the expo, or through uploading a video with your registration. Video submissions are eligible for awards.
Get advising help with registration
Registration for summer semester is available now for students who'd like to catch up or get ahead this summer. Registration for fall occurs in April, and students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to begin planning. Students transitioning between majors, unsure of their path, or struggling academically can meet with an Allen Student Advising Center Advisor to help them find their way.
