Welcome to the 7th Sports in Africa Symposium

Following the six successful Sports in Africa conferences, and the changing world sport stage, the 2011 Sports in Africa symposium intend to initiate an intellectual discussion and exchange on the increasing presence of the Global South, Africa, Asia and South America on world stage. In fact after Beijing Olympics 2008, South Africa FIFA World Cup 2010, and upcoming World Cup and Olympics respectively in 2014 and 2016 in Brazil, the choice of Qatar to host 2022 FIFA World Cup changes on world sport geopolitics are palpable.
Therefore with the participation of sports scholars from Ohio University and other institutions in the US, the symposium will provide an international platform for discussing sport as a socio-economic, international politics, and development subject in a rapidly changing world.
