Fruth Scholarship
December 07, 2017 : Fruth family funds scholarship at Ohio University Southern
Pharmacy owners Jack and Frances Fruth wanted to use their family-owned company to impact the quality of life in the Ohio and West Virginia communities served by their business. Nearly three decades later, their daughter, Lynne Fruth who serves as the company’s president, said hundreds of students have been assisted with scholarship funds established in the Fruth name.

Fruth echoes her parents’ vision. She said this legacy of giving is “the best way to impact our local communities (and) to help educate their young men and women.”

Ohio University Southern is one of the institutions with a Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship. Eligible scholarship applicants must be enrolled in or accepted for admission to the Southern Campus. Applicants must also have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and have a demonstrated financial need.

Lynne Fruth visited the Ironton campus of Ohio University Southern on Nov. 29 to present a check to Director of External Relations, Sarah Diamond Burroway.  The $4,000 will support the Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship, an endowed scholarship for graduating seniors from Lawrence County schools to attend Ohio University Southern.

Dr. Nicole Pennington, Dean of the Southern Campus, said support from companies like Fruth is vital to students.  "We very much appreciate the continued support from Fruth. Scholarships are such a critical need for our students, and The Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship makes degrees possible for them. We are very grateful."

The 2017 Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship recipient at Ohio University Southern is Sabrina Cox, a graduate of Symmes Valley High School.

Lynne Fruth said the scholarship funds are generated through an annual golf tournament hosted by Fruth Pharmacy which began in 1991.  Since the event began, more than $800,000 has been raised for forty different scholarships in the region.
