The Electronic Media crew at the Southern Campus provided broadcasting support for the 146th annual Memorial Day Parade in Ironton, Ohio this year. As the nation’s oldest continuous organized parade to honor our military personnel, this year’s parade was also streamed live for the first time in its history. With more than 5,000 views of the webpage representing parade enthusiasts across the U.S. and around the globe from such countries as Germany, Japan, Norway, Venezuela, and Singapore. Throughout the parade, hundreds of viewers shared sentiments about this historic parade and their connection to the Ironton tradition during the chat session. Kim Owens wrote, “We grew up with this parade. (My husband) joined the Army and we spent many years away. It was wonderful to be able to watch this year when we couldn't attend. Thank you for including us in the day no matter where we were located.”
Prior to the parade, Ohio University Southern participated in the float contest, taking home the award for third place in the Parade Commander division. The patriotic-themed float bearing this year’s theme, “For Our Troops and Families,” carried several Veterans along with their family members along the parade route. As web viewer Sherry wrote, “Hats off to our proud service men (and women) in the parade! Thank you and we salute you!!!
