ADN class of summer 2017
August 30, 2017 : Ohio University Southern recognizes graduating ADN students at pinning ceremony
Summer semester Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) graduates were recognized Friday, Aug. 11 during the Nurse Pinning Ceremony – a longstanding tradition that formally welcomes new nurses into the profession.

Associate Director of Nursing Mashawna Hamilton has been part of this proud observance for several years. “It fills me with such pride that so many Ohio University Southern nursing graduates have gone on to make significant contributions to the healthcare industry – both in our local communities and across the nation,” Hamilton said. “It’s my greatest hope that these new graduates, and those that follow, continue to uphold this legacy of excellence.”

ADN class of summer 2017 Elijah Posey attended the ceremony with his wife and children to cheer on his sister, Krystal Posey. “I’m so proud of her,” Posey said. “In fact, I’m proud of all of these graduates and their hard work.”

Dr. Martha Evans, assistant professor and campus liaison for the Early Childhood program at the Southern Campus, was the evening’s keynote speaker and mother to graduate Luann De La Rosa. Evans spoke about how health challenges had impacted her family and how nursing professionals played a key role in comforting and assisting her during difficult times. “My dad always said that the most powerful force on the planet is our love. Each act that we do has the possibility to show compassion for another person. In nowhere is that more evident than in the nursing profession,” Evans said.

In all, 21 ADN graduates were honored, including Amanda Cooper, who was named Outstanding ADN Student in her class and De La Rosa, who won the Spirit of Nursing award.
