2017 Love Your Body Health Awareness Fair
February 28, 2017 : Southern Campus hosts annual Love Your Body Health Awareness Fair
Ohio University Southern hosted the Sixth Annual Love Your Body Health Awareness Fair on Feb. 23 in the Mains Rotunda of the Riffe Center.  More than 20 local organizations were on-site offering free health screenings and distributing health and wellness information to faculty, staff, students and members of the community.

Lisa Hastings, St. Mary’s coordinator for Women’s Health Services and The Total Woman, said that the event is a great benefit for the community.  “It is important to educate members in the surrounding communities about health service options so they are able to choose the proper health care,” she said.

2017 Love Your Body Health Awareness FairOhio University Southern ACTION Psychology Club officer and student Stacy Griffing said that her favorite part of the event was the massage table.  “A free massage was the perfect way to destress after a long week of midterms,” she said. “It was also a great opportunity to meet new people and learn valuable information about managing physical and mental health.”

Robert Pleasant, coordinator of diversity and inclusion at the Southern Campus, said that the event introduces faculty, staff, students and the community to resources on campus that can help them lead healthier lives.  “Many of our students have families, work and other obligations outside of the University.  By providing this health awareness event, we are reminding our students of the importance of taking care of themselves mind, body and spirt,” he said.

Free screenings included blood glucose, cholesterol, hemoglobin and blood pressure. Participants were able to speak one-on-one with various health and wellness organizations.
